Nature Park Česká Kanada
Czech Canada is a laandscape with very special charm and atmosphere...

Česká Kanada (Czech Canada) Nature Park was declared on 1st July 1994. The park border runs through the towns of Nová Bystřice, Kunžak and Slavonice and is located in Javořická vrchovina (highlands) with a surface area of 291 km2. The park elevation ranges between 468 and 738 metres above sea level and its highest point is Vysoký kámen (738 m).
The name Czech Canada was chosen due to the character of the nature, many natural lakes, rivers and creeks (the Koštěnický creek, the Dračice rivulet, the Hamerský creek; the park is also the area with the main Labe - Dunaj European watershed), vast and deep forests, and a very harsh climate.
The complete absence of heavy industry, the scarce population and a total ban on entering the area before 1989 preserved this pristine and unique countryside. The whole area is a good example of a picturesque and well-preserved landscape attractive enough for all types of recreation and tourism. The NaturePark provides marked cycling routes, education trails (Grasel’s, 20th century, Denomination, Textile, Senotín) and marked Nordic ski trails. You can expect to find not just history (Landštejn Castle, the church in Klášter, Museum of Czechoslovak Fortification, the long extinct medieval village of Pfaffenschlag) but also modern sights (the narrow-gauge railroad with regular and steam trains), serene forest paths flanked by mushrooms and blueberries, boulders and rocks, forest lakes and outstanding scenic views. Among others, you can also see many protected animals and plants (junipers, sawyer beetles, adders, otters, etc.).
